don't be afraid of the dark

okay...

warren (newsom) and i have been having a fun email back-and-forth covering all kindsa things, but mostly made-for-tv horror movies from the seventies...

see there was this movie we both saw when we were kids called

it starred a really-not-good kim darby and these guys

it was pretty scary and suspenseful for back then so they're doing a re-make starring

and directed by

anyway, much more informative and revealing would be this bit of transcript from our conversation which should explain why this movie scared the crap out of me too...
(i hope warren doesn't mind my posting this--i didn't aks him...)

on wednesday, warren wrote~

I don’t get excited about horror movies these days, especially the ones made in the U.S. But this trailer

made me jump at least three times in about a minute. I remember watching the original back in the 70’s on ABC Movie of the Week * . It had Kim Darby in it and scared the bejezzus out of me. I can’t wait to see this one.

( * matt--movie of the weeeeeeek...! )

i responded~

i will be watching the original tonight with sharon, my niece, and my nephew...
i bought it years ago on vhs and then again recently on dvd. when i heard that they were doing a re-make i decided it was time to show it to them.

i saw the original back when i was like 11 or 12 on the movie of the week...at a friends house. we didn't sleep that night and, unfortunately, his bedroom featured a small door to the eaves of the house for storage. you know the kind...we watched it all night long and took turns imagining that we saw it slowly opening. one of the scariest nights of my life.

he and i talk about it still.

i always had a hard time staying there after that one night.

when my niece and nephew were still tiny, my brother and sister-in-law BOUGHT THAT VERY HOUSE to make into their home and the kids made that bedroom their own--and i couldn't bring myself to tell them the story of how scared i was and why that little door upstairs always gives me the creeps.

until now.

i'll tell you how it goes...

thanks!
t.

well, warren--it was great! and, while sharon and the kids and i did talk and comment throughout (something i hate when watching just about anything else...!) we all did quiet down for those chilling moments that scared us as kids. the four of us have made plans to go see the new one together when it comes out...

that's it for me!
have a great weekend--and week!
i'll be flying down to the sunshine state on sunday for a week of fun with nick cardy!
i'm having craig post the blog each day, so look for that!
see ya on the flip-side!
smell ya later!

Have a great trip and thank for getting Uncle Craig to baby sit while you're away.

He's the cool uncle.
