awakening

okay...

so the other day i'm having lunch with my friend, nick tapalansky, and i realize--damn! in all the confusion of the past few months, nick's first comic book--awakening--(published by the mouseguard guys, archaia press studios) came out and i never even hawked it here on the blog! d'oh!

well, between you and me, i wouldn't hawk anything here unless i really liked it, and i really like awakening. just in time for halloween, this suburban gothic horror tale will get you going right in the first issue! and issue 2 comes out this week! so don't miss it!

of course, i saw the first issue about six months ago and have watched as nick and his artist/partner, alex eckman-lawn, shopped it to archaia...and got picked up! not an easy feat in these days of timid publishers and even more selective readers!
but if you like horror--and i know you do--here's a little sample of what these guys got goin' on--

and if that piqued your curiosity, pcik up awakening 2 this week at your lcs! (and look and see if you can still get #1...)

Lettuce. That was a stumper as I hardly think of it as a vegetable.

"Awakening" looks very scary, hope the guys do well with it.

Oh, my LCBS is having a costume contest - Halloween falls on Wednesday, new comic book cay, this year - so if you can UPS me that Cricket Armor, I think I've got a great shot at winning.

That book looks really cool. My LCS sux big time so I'll have to see if I can find it online. Oh and it's off topic here, but yesterday on VH1 Classics they had the top 100 80's videos going and my gf and I were watching it, and now I do seem to remember ALOT more of the videos and songs from that time and why I had forgotten them haha!! But it was pretty cool getting to remember them.

Lettuce? LETTUCE. Unbelievable.

I'll see if my buds Marvin and Marsha have AWAKENING in stock. I hope so. Looks cool. I've been trying a lot more of the offbeat stuff lately in lieu of the depressing superhero stuff. Though I came close to quitting the hobby altogether a couple months ago, I'm buying more comics now than I have in a long time. Seems like Dark Horse and Image are the mainstream's last, best hope for alternative books. Marvel and DC sure aren't trying anything different. MOUSE GUARD was excellent so here's hoping AWAKENING continues the trend.

Lettuce?

No, I'll stick with my answer avocado.

Awakening looks great. I'll pick it up this week.
