turkey hangover...

okay...

cleaning house today so that we can start getting the christmas decorations out. i'm usually one of those people that is irritated when the stores start tromping out the christmas stuff (earlier and earlier each year...!) but this year...well, i kinda need a little holiday spirit early this year. so i'm programming the christmas carol station on the car stereo, getting down the decorations, lining up a selection of christmas dvds that i just gotta see, and doing everything i can to make this as much of a warm, traditional, magical christmas season as there ever was!

so, since i've got to get back to cleaning, here are the "five for friday".
i call these the "thursday night five for friday".
or maybe "must see trivia".
hope you dig 'em!

1. on friends, what was the name of the building super and joey's dance partner?

2. on seinfeld, who was the fixer who could rid elaine of her yapping-in-the-night dog problems?

3. what was the name of the short-lived show featuring tony shaloub and neil patrick harris?

4. on er, what song was playing during mark green's final fade...?

5. on will and grace, what physical act did jack and karen perform upon meeting to seal their newfound friendship?

and before we go, what about YOUR favorite christmas or holiday movies/shows/dvds...what do you HAVE to see each year?
anyone...?

smell ya later!

Hope everyone had a great turkey day. My post thanksgiving ritual this year involves raking up leaves and getting the bushes ready for the Christmas lights. The Mrs. is starting to decorate the house for Christmas as well, though I'll wait till December to add my touches.

1. Funny episode, but I don't remember the guys name.

2. Newman and Kramer did the dirty deed.

3. I watched it, but don't remember the name. I think it's the one where Tony was a "Stephen King" type writer.

4. Stopped watching ER after Clooney left.

5. The lifted their shirts and touched bellies. Their funniest piece of physical comedy, however, involved a credit card. That scene makes me laugh just thinking about it. Those two were outrageous.

I like all the old Christmas cartoons and claymation stuff like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, etc. Takes me back to being a little kid at Christmas. On that same note but not a cartoon so does "A Christmas Story." And last year I found "Christmas Do-Over" absolutely hilarious so it will probably be making my future must-see Christmas list.

I usually try to catch THE GRINCH or the Peanuts Christmas Special if I see they're airing, but that's about it. We have all the Rankin/Bass movies on DVD but rarely drag them out. I'm not a big Christmas guy but I'm having the same reaction this year that you are, Todd. I promised Suzanne I'd be more in the spirit this year, just for our sanity.

3. STARK RAVING MAD. The only reason I know this is because Suzanne and I loved this show and we were so pissed when it got cancelled. Great sitcom and I hate sitcoms for the most part.

5. You beat me to it, Brian, but I was only guessing because I saw it in the opening credit sequence and it seemed to be "their thing." Dang, but Karen was a hottie in the first couple of seasons, annoying voice and all.

Lets see...
You stumped me (again) on the questions..no prob as I am not really into tv shows these days...but back in the 80's...watch out!
The Christmas movie list grows every year...
A Christmas story (Oh yeah, I watch the marathon on Christmas)
Christmas Vacation
All the old Rudolph stop-motion-type cartoons
Peanuts Christmas
8 Crazy Nights (recently added)
The Grinch
White Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street

That is probably it, we take these flics out and continously watch them...putting aside all other flics...

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

As for the DVD's, I try to catch Grinch, Charlie Brown and Rudolph every year and I like to listen to my "A Christmas Carol" on tape read by Sir John Gielgud.

I don't have the DVD (not sure if it's ever been released), but I absolutely, positively NEED to see 'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, you know...with the mice and the clock tower. Love it, to probably a strange and unhealthy degree. Can sing along with all the songs. Even a miracle needs a hand and all that jazz. I think I wanted to be Joshua Trundle when I grew up. Or maybe Father Mouse.

On a different note, I also make sure I catch LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, peek in on the 24 hours of A CHRISTMAS STORY at some point, and right after Thanksgiving I re-watch PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES, and after that but before Christmas, I re-watch SCROOGED ("It's a TOAS-TER!")

Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is also a favorite as the songs are great.

Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!

one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite holiday movies... a christmas story. if trish let me, i'd sit and watch it for for the whole 24 hour marathon on cable...

i'm sure we'll be watching a few xmas specials this year with the kids... and get the itunes shuffling holiday tracks (like the los straitjackets and reverend horton heat cds)

How was everyone's thanksgiving? All was well here. I only knew Stark Raving Mad on the five-fer. My fave xmas things to watch repeatedly over this time of year are All the Stop-motion Rankin-Bass flicks, Christmas Story(I too try to watch as much of the marathon as possible), Christmas Vacation-cuz this one rocks!, Emmit Otter's Jug Band Christmas, Muppet Christmas Carol and my favorite is A Wish For Wings That Work-cuz I love me a whole ton of Berke Breathed! And yes this is a Long list haha!!

Oh and how can I forget the Charlie Brown stuff too!

Must see for the Christmas spirit...
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated of course)
A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart (I just think that this is the best adaptation of the story ever done)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (just love the little tree)

Otherwise, getting the Christmas decorations out and up and the final practices for both our children's and adult's Christmas programs at church.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

I got nothing for the 5er.

I stayed as far away from the malls as possible, even took the mountain bike (there are no mountains in S. Florida) out for some trail riding in the Everglades.

I like all the regular cartoons, but specially like "Miracle on 34th Street" (both old and new versions)

Later.

Todd-
It's great to see you have fans overseas (or did someone spam you in another language?)- LOL

Be on the lookout for "Monster Quest" on The History Channel.
Last night I was watching a thing on a Loch Ness type creature in Lake Champlain.

Might be something Big & the Haps would want to check out (or at least some r&d material for you)

Later.

My wife and I make a point to catch the classics (Charlie Brown, the Rankin-Bass Stop Motion Specials, A Christmas Story, etc.)

I also have made a point of watching the Justice League Christmas episode "Comfort and Joy" the last couple of years.

Should also note that our TV is pretty much locked onto the ABC Family Channel. My wife loves all those cheesey "Look How Wholesome We Are" made for TV movies.

Adam, if they show "Christmas Every Day", look for the scene with the old lady eating the cat food. Though barely visible, there's a picture of a cat on the cans. That cat is my little buddy Toonces. That movie was shot here in Richmond and the company I worked for was hired to create some graphics for the movie. I did the catfood label, some inspection stickers and the dust jacket for a book on Ireland that Robert Hays gets for Christmas. I couldn't resist putting Tooncie's face on the label. The movie airs every year on ABC Family.

Matt, I mentioned "Christmas Everyday" to my wife last night, and low and behold she already had the DVR set to record it. While she's watching it in the background, I'll try to spot Toonces and that book.
