christmas 94

christmas card no.8--1994

okay...

though most of our marriage had been happy, sadly, nicole came to me in the spring of 94 (just as i was given my first work at marvel...) and told me she thought she had been too young when we got married. she said she was moving out and said she was taking jake. though things had become "quiet" between us over the previous few months, this had all been quite a surprise to me and i was devastated.
i was deeply depressed.
after about two months however, nicole told me that i should take jake back, saying that, with work, she just didn't have the time to devote to having a jack russell (they require a lot of attention and play.)
still very sad about the split, i was overjoyed to have jake back.
the four of us back together, jake, hank, and gretchen picked me up and--along with my family--helped me through, brought me back from my depression and made that first christmas a very merry one after all!

this card is also one of my favorites; i was very happy with the watercolors (now able to afford COLOR copies with my some of that crazy x-men money...) and loved the gag--and that everybody had a line. even santa.

smell ya later!

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing. Knowing how things turned out for you as I read the post, I said, Nicole left, well that's sad, but things have a way of working themselves out for the best, but then I got to the part about taking Jake and said, "WHAT! No way, that's terrible."

Another great thing is that the return of Jake ushered in the color card era.

Never come between a man and his dog. That's just not...jake.
